Our Program
What Happens at a BusSAFE Session?
Students learn practical strategies and develop the knowledge to become responsible and confident passengers.
Sessions take 50 minutes to an hour, and the ideal group size is two classes. There are videos, role play and in-class discussions.
For primary students, there is an outdoor bus inspection: a hands-on way to discover its safety features. At secondary level, we round off our sessions with an interactive game to put learning into practice.
Who Is It For?
BusSAFE sessions are offered free to schools across Australia.
We offer tailored sessions across three age groups:
- Foundation to Year 2
- Years 3-6
- Years 7-9

BusSAFE provides materials, training and suppport, assisting your team to deliver school sessions.
BusSAFE is currently led by BusSA in partnership with the Bus Australia Network. The use and delivery of BusSAFE in each state jurisdiction is determined and guided by each state association.
BusSAFE is a great way to demonstrate your organisation’s commitment to safety, to both your drivers and the schools that you service.

What Teachers Are Saying
Feedback from teachers is uniformly positive. 100% of teachers said BusSAFE is a worthwhile initiative. Many re-book from year to year with a new cohort of students.
“For kids that catch a bus twice a day, or for kids that do not access a bus, this information was vital for their safety. I learnt so much too!"
Junior Primary Teacher, SA
”I really liked how there were different modes of communication - videos, stories from the driver, practically getting onto the bus, photos, questions, lots of engagement.”
Primary Teacher, Molesworth, TAS
"Brenton was awesome! He has a wonderful style of presenting that leads to high engagement. He made what could be dry content, very entertaining, but very meaningful and relevant at the same time.”
Primary Principal, SA
“These sessions provided us with a common language and set the expectations for all students. We are able to refer to this session as a point of reference and have been able to deal with student behaviour quickly”
Teacher, Gladstone, SA
“The information was relevant and the time on the actual bus very worthwhile.”
Assistant Principal, Sunshine Coast, QLD
“Definitely suitable for the Year 5/6 students who will transition to high school and use a bus every day to and from their secondary school. This is a critical transition point and hearing the safety messages and being able to sit on the bus and explore - was fantastic.”
Teacher, Williamstown, SA
“Engaging presenter, involvement and high engagement of students throughout”
Luke
Deputy Principal, Freeling Primary School, SA
“Loved the props and the bus. Great visual representation!”
School Librarian, Sunshine Beach, QLD
“Michael, the presenter made the sessions engaging. Highly recommend.”
Assistant Principal, Jimboomba, QLD
“Have it readily available often as possible!”
Junior Primary Teacher, Hobart, TAS
“Fantastic presentation with a lot of questions testing knowledge.”
Primary Teacher, Smithton, TAS
“Well done. Annie did a fantastic job engaging all students.”
Teacher's Aide, Circular Head, TAS
“Students were particularly interested in safety aspects of a bus and what to do if something goes wrong. Having a physical bus there for students to put the learning into practice was excellent”
Ashley
Principal, Owen Primary School, SA.
“… being 5-6 year olds with limited knowledge of how buses work, it was great information for them to learn as buses are a part of school life”
Amy
Reception Teacher, Mallala Primary School, SA.
